  • Hi, I’m fairly new so please excuse me if this is a silly question. At around 27:00 of the Match video when the Ward of Air is killed with a Naval Final Ruin action is this possible? Would rules of location not prohibit it being targeted because it’s not at the current battlefield?

    • Rules of Location and Presence only apply to actions. Since Ward of Air is a trait, you can destroy it from anywhere, provided it’s on an Air Shugenja.

  • I agree but it wasn’t destroyed by it’s controller for it’s effect. It was destroyed by the crab players action wasn’t it? So it would have had to have been at the battlefield to be targeted?

    • Oh, we just weren’t being clear in how we were speaking at that point. When Paul said “eat the ward of air”, he just meant “force me to activate it”. So what he actually did there was target my defender with Final Ruin, then I activated the Final Ruin in response. He just knew I had no choice but to use it so he cut to the chase.

  • Ok thanks that makes more sense! Sorry, like I said I’m pretty new and wanted to make sure I was understanding what was going on. Thanks for the help and great videos/interesting reads.

  • I Love the deck, it’s really good. It will destroy the meta much like Crane Scouts did, sure but there’s tons of meta against it, 2 separate harpoons, sudden movement, versatile army, lots of bow through everything, and in the end, Rae Sensei is leaving in 20 Festivals, and THAT is the biggest cog that allows you to do all this jank without being there.

    • Well, we hope it’s gone with 20F!

Anyway you’re right, that’s definitely the most “NPE” card in the deck, but the rest of the deck is really good anyway. I think all these cards will still be tier 1 in 20F, just because what this deck does is so much more powerful than what other decks are doing. Final Ruin specifically makes all the other battle actions look like a joke.

      • I agree that it’s going to be bonkers, I also agree that Phoenix is going to go from ignorable and laughable to straight up terrifying in 20F, but they’ve done this before. Look at Crane, the most terrfiying thing they have coming next arc is a Fear 4 that kills dishonored peeps with Very Few ways of dishonoring them. Their Scouts are laughable at best. They do this often, and it’s a little bit upsetting that they think it’s okay to bounce around like some World of Warcraft MMO shit. Oh no Warlocks OP better nerf the shit out of them, oh snap that made Paladins OP now! It’s just a “who’s winning test” and in a game where there’s shit on the line like card titles, and storlyine events that’s not okay. Crane was brutal in Celestial Edition for the Brutality that was Embassy of the Crane. And in response to that we got some of the worst cards ever and won barely over 5 tournaments the whole Emperor Edition. Now Crane Scouts are on the map and harder than ever before, and now when 20F shifts, their box is going to be blank when playing Scouts, and the personality base is laughable. Phoenix is another example, because of the shit that happened in Temple of Purity EE, they get shat on in IvE, but now in 20F they are that Same level of brutality.

I’m sure I don’t need to expound on the fact that they have in IvE Core a redirect that turns your Yojimbos into meat shields for your stupid strong spells, but now you have a stronghold that brings your Yojimbos Back to Life! and if you go second, for TWO LESS GOLD. Is that fair? at all? probably not. but you know what they deserve it right?

BUT… but, on the other hand, what is the Meta, without Meta? Running things like Your True Nature is going to be huge because of cards like this, Resist Magic is another. I mean there are answers right? Even if Rae comes back, Determined Challenge, Coward, Sudden Movement, as well as the Terrain that punishes retreating. but you still need to build a deck that can best other decks while still having answers, what’s the point of building a silver bullet deck that beats phoenix but loses to the 50 card spider enlightenment deck? Maybe it’s out of control, I don’t know, but I do have commentary on your game, like when he slapped on the Demolisher AND the hammer, bad play. Slap on the Staff and swing anyway, A) takes a province, B) if you defend you lose your defender, it was a win win. BUT I have only “Almost” won a kotei so I am by no means an authority on this matter. But those are my thoughts… rebutle? thoughts? concerns?

        • He had a Flame in play and chump defender. If I only attach one thing, I do not generate enough force to take a province through his force reduction flame spell. Throwing down a big attachment just to force a chump defense isn’t efficient, and his deck has inevitability. Have to take a province that turn.

  • Am I missing something about Senseis? While I understand that Ivory 1 themes will be transitioned into new themes for Ivory 2 have they actually said anything to suggest that the Ivory base set Senseis won’t transition to Ivory 2.

    • Well, they aren’t bugged, so there’s no reason to think they will. Also the idea behind bringing back senseis was to eliminate multiple boxes. Since the old boxes are (more or less) coming back, it makes sense for them to change the senseis instead.

But you’re right, we don’t really have evidence one way or the other.
