Enough Talk! Unicorn Shugenja vs Mantis Scouts

We have a new feature this week: Other Battles, Other Things. We’ll break down what we think the key moments in the game we play are, and talk about alternative lines of play we could have taken. Hopefully it’ll help jump-start conversation about our plays, and what could have been different. Hope you guys enjoy it!

An alternate version of the Death Priest Deck is below (apologises for the formatting, I am using phone).

  • Why didn’t you attach the Guidance in War (Conquerer, +2 Force) and the Tested Blade and Cavalry take a province? On your opponent’s turn you were getting the Ivory Courthouse, and combined with the tested blade and your sensei you had sufficient defense against a possible attack. Was it more because of Shika or having to delay on buying the dark Naga or both?

  • Also wanted add that I do not see the benefit in the gold structure of the deck versus a mix of 444s and 141s as I have in the deck list above. Yes you have the possibility of explosive starts, but at what point does consistency outway probability? Over 94% of the time I’m starting my 3rd turn with 17-21 gold. For you to even reach that range you would need to see on average 6 holdings in 12 cards which puts you at roughly 76%.
