Meditation on Mental Methodology.

L5r is a complex game. That complexity makes it a delight to build, test, play, and think about. There is so much stuff going on. So many options to consider. Moves, countermoves, trumps, and wild cards.

It can be overwhelming. Today I am going to talk about a mental process I use to help me digest game states, and make the proper plays.

gaming

Why you taking so long to make a decision? There’s only 27 cards in play.

As a player, you may have already developed a process or two of your own. Sadly, many if not most players, haven’t.

Lets start at the beginning. Decks generally have a built in opening sequence. Gold on turn one, more gold on two, personalities on three, attack on four is a very common progression. A different military deck may aim for less or zero gold and attack on turn 2 or 3. Executing a plan based around being a turn faster and blitzing out the opponent.

AkagiBox

One powerful faction. Two different decks.

Regardless of the specific overarching strategy, both decks have codified first and second turn plays. The players piloting these decks, will rarely if ever stop to consider what an opponent is up to in these initial turns. It seems unnecessary. Superfluous. Except it isn’t at all! Strongholds  with senseis, personalities put down to a cycle, the full nature of the holdings purchased, and the events resolved all provide critical information. As a player, you know this. At least a little. Even the newbiest of newbs understands there is a difference between a Crane deck starting Akagi Sensei and a Crane deck showing Tadanobu Sensei. A Unicorn deck that buys Moto Okano on turn one is approaching the game in a contrasting way then the one that gets first turn Poorly Placed Garden.

Review

Taking notice of all available information, stuff in play, discard piles, provinces, starting conditions, etc, is the review step. It is the first rung of the process, and when its missed, bad things happen. How many games have you lost because you missed an opponent’s on board play? A “trick” that was staring you right in your not-paying attention face? Did you lament your absent-mindedness? Did one of your stupid friends scream at you “how did you miss that?!” Of all the mistakes in l5r, this is the toughest one to shake off. You have no one to blame except yourself, and you know it.

discipline

Remember the discipline or die to it.

There is no shortcut to observing the board state. No cheat. You have to actually take the time and make sure you are seeing the whole board. The good news is that it doesn’t take that long. Ask your opponent to give you a force total (get technical if you must “how much force including Tamoko Sensei”) make sure the gold piled up in the corner isn’t hiding any secret plays. The easiest way I have found to keep track of my opponents stuff is to keep a mental running tally every time he adds a card to the board, but that can be taxing and leads to a lot of losses to Discipline cards. At a base level, you need to develop the habit of reviewing everything at the start of your turns and when your opponent declares an attack against you. Read the keywords, don’t lose to an unexpected Cavalry engage. Make sure to pay attention to the Jutsushi Sensei force bonus. Remember that the stronghold battle ability is tireless. More games are a lost to people missing plays than any other factor, so take the time, and read the cards that are on the board. At the high end, there is no getting around it. Get in the habit of scanning all the zones and committing all the information to mind. If it isn’t relevant, cool beans. If it is, well, human beings have pretty impressive brains with all kind of storage capacity.

Analyze

tadanobu

These pieces don’t fit together.

Return to our early turn example. When an opponent shows us Tadanobu Sensei we know he is going to be tossing around some number of duels. If in his first turn he cycles down Horobei and Oneiyara we can also safely assume he isn’t planning to win the game by honor. Honor decks that cannot gain honor from holdings don’t play multiple unaligned non-unique personalities.  A Crane duel based military deck. What does that mean? Weakness Exposed is a powerful card to be aware of, he is going to be running some number of attachments (probably items as both those personalities are also kensai) for force generation, low focus cards like Overwhelming Offense or Unsettling Gathering are highly unlikely to make an appearance. Interpreting the reviewed information and extrapolating out your opponent’s game plan and options is the heart of the analyze step. The goal here is understanding. Understanding the likely configuration of your opponents hand, and understanding how exactly he is going to use his cards in play.

dishonorcrabs

Ah Emperor Edition. When cards could barely fit all their text.

Story time.

In the later half of Emperor Edition kotei season, Jesse was in the finals with a Phoenix military deck. He was paired against a Crab dishonor deck. I remember thinking as the game started how cool it was that Jesse was about to be a kotei champ. All my testing indicated that Crab was a significant underdog. It takes a while to get to the finals of a kotei. By the time Jesse was there, he wasn’t doing a good job of reading the 18 lines of text on every Crab merchant. He certainly wasn’t taking the time to understand their various interactions. In no time at all he was getting blown out by Yasukis Daiki, Jekku, and Tanimura. It was a failure of preparation. Jesse had never played against Crab dishonor. It was also a serious failure of rigorous play. He didn’t take the time to figure out what his opponent was doing, and as such, couldn’t construct a plan to defeat him.

Prioritize

You are playing against a Lion military deck, it is their turn 4 and they attack you with Akodo Kenaro, Ikoma Shika, and Ikoma Genichi.

dishonorcrabs

Who’s afraid of a 2 force Lion?

If you don’t defend, you will lose a province for sure. It can be safely assumed that the Lion player has a high enough focus value card to tactician away. This is a critical decision point. Most players when facing this situation will ask 1.) can I win the battle on the defense? 2.) if I cannot win, can I defend and save my province? More experienced players, will also consider things like 3.) Is this province worth saving? or 4.) do I want to conserve my resources for a counterattack?

Determining the relative value of a single card, province, or maneuver is about prioritization.

If you defend against those three Lion personalities with an Unholy Strike in hand, there is some debate on who you will shoot. We know, though, that Ikoma Shika isn’t going to be a target. Genichi has a Ranged 3 attack and Kenaro is a tactician. The only thing Shika is bringing to the table is his keywords, and he shares those with Genichi. In this situation Shika is the lowest priority target, and as such will not be targeted with Unholy Strike. If you have a 3 Force personality with a battle ability that you want to use, then we have a sequencing prioritization. You may want to use that ability first. Generally, using cards in play before using cards in hand is correct, but if the entire point of the defense is to sacrifice a personality to save the province, then opening with Unholy Strike on Kenaro is probably where you want to be.

Make

It’s a lot to consider in totality, but you can see also what players refer to as “lines of play”. Once you make a first decision the second tends to flow from that and so on. Of course, priorities shift. An all in win the battle defense may start to go sour. It may turn into an attrition as much as you can and live to fight another day defense. Thus the importance of constant board review and analysis.

Execute.

Make

The last step. Included for completeness. Once you have determined the correct play. Make it. It sounds easy, but it isn’t always. Especially when the correct play is something like a potentially suicidal semi-bluff attack, or a “hope he doesn’t have it but he probably does” defense. The number of times I have seen people make a play they know is wrong, but they still make it because they don’t know what else to do is shocking.

Review, Analyze, Prioritize, Execute. Lousy acronym.

Review, Analyze, Prioritize, Execute.

4 steps.

That’s my method.

What’s yours?

  • I tend to do more events based playing, setting up a prioritized queue of responses based on changes in game states. It’s much more reactive and defensive than most people’s play styles and more of the European Sytle of playing the game. (“Americans play to win, Europeans play not to lose”)

  • You know what, that’s fucking tacky.

  • As the man who had the police called to get you removed from a kotei, I still expect better from you Paul.

    • That was a Lotus kotei. 1st half of the season, so 2005. Just a few months shy of 10 years ago. Man, time flies.

I remember a different kotei. It was a few years later, a Samurai edition event. You were the TO, in the 3rd round I get a tap on my shoulder, I look over and a picture of Jim’s Chatham penis is looking back at me. It was not a lot of fun for me. Indeed, it almost caused me to lose my game.
I told you about it when I was reporting my match result. Do you remember what you said, exactly? I’m asking sincerely. I would echo your words back to you now.

If you don’t remember, call me on my cell phone, in fact, do that anyways. We can visit. While you’re here, check out the rest of the site, always looking for feedback.

  • All the great points made in this article are completely negated by the chosen acronym. I sincerely hope you consider re-writing the end. It reflects poorly on the entire site, and the L5R community as a whole.

    • It wasn’t a chosen acronym. You’’re statement implies a larger, grander construction than what I am capable of, frankly.

Writing two thousand words on a given topic, even one that I am passionate about, like l5r, is a challenge. When the topic involves trying to articulate thought processes that almost always go unspoken, there is an extra degree of difficulty. It was hard formulating the paragraphs and communicating how I play and make my decisions. Harder still, to take the thoughts and concepts expressed in the paragraphs and summarize them neatly in one word for the sake of clarity and formating. The notion that I somehow started with the end result and worked my backwards is giving me too much credit.

      I’m not that clever.

When I was finishing up, I looked over the words that I had ended up on, and was like “maybe they’ll make a weird sounding acronym like Fubar, that’ll be fun.” It didn’t. It made a completely a different word, one that I acknowledge doesn’t at all work for that purpose.

As for your second point, the image doesn’t even reflect on the article itself, extrapolating it outward as a reflection of the site’s totality (which you should spend some time checking out!) or the community at large (as if a single image, from a single article, from a single site were capable of such a thing) is misguided.

  • The article demonstrates strategic thinking, so you obviously thought about what you were doing and decided it was okay. I would be willing to hear your thought process on that, but I’m also good with you cutting straight to an apology to save time.

    • The article demonstrates strategic thinking in a game. A game that I play just for fun. I’m not a Vulcan, all of my decisions and actions are not always guided by pure logical, tactical, or strategic thought. Like everybody else, sometimes I just do stuff without planning it all out. What’s life without a little whimsy?

When producing article content for the site here (which, click around some, lots of great l5r content, videos and audio too), I employ the time tested jump right in and write method. It works for me. I mention this because I want to disabuse you of the notion that I constructed some long article with carefully chosen headers just as a laborious set up for some sort of rape joke. If I was doing that, I probably would have referenced the joke in the article proper. Something like “so the next time you are staring down your opponent, think RAPE! TROLLOLOLOL”

I didn’t do that. I acknowledged that the ending acronym was sucky, in a direct non-humorous way, which is the tone of the entire rest of the article.

  • Really guys?! Did you not read his caption that it has a “lousy acronym.” Had he not included the image would you have been at all upset? I bet you didn’t even notice until he pointed it out. No where is he promoting or analogizing rape anywhere in the article to anyone yet he’s vilified instantly on coincidence. Similar thing happened at a multi-billion $ company here in Maryland that had the same name for over 50 years but when someone noticed their initials was the same as some Nazis faction: PR nightmare over the place. Funding halted. Sensivity training. Media coverage. The L5R CCG itself is more insulting that this article. Look at some of the old artwork and tell me that AEG doesn’t support stereotypical represention of Asians and mock their culture. Sheesh!

    • Here’s the thing Lucradan (and anyone else): It’s not a lousy acronym. It’s an offensive and threatening one. Just last week, we had a new female player join our Friday night games. She had played some casually before, but was looking to get better. Now, if I refer her to online resources for strategy, should I just tell her: Yeah, just check out Paul Ashman’s RAPE article? Fuck no.

And let’s not call this a coincidence. As Ashman himself points out, “Execute” is “The last step. Included for completeness.” It’s there to complete the acronym. It’s there so he can make a rape joke. As Kasha notes, this was a strategic decision.

I’ve submitted by facebook and by email (which was bounced back as nonexistent address by gmail) a polite request that the article be altered or taken down. I have received no reply. I am repeating that request word for word here, hoping that it will be seen:

“I’d like to request that you take down or change your article here: http://www.enoughtalkl5r.com/articles/meditation-on-mental-methodology/

The acronym used is not only offensive, but it contributes directly towards a hostile environment for female players. That’s something we don’t need at a time when the game is struggling.”

It should say “that’s something we should never do,” but I was angry at the time and not thinking clearly. I’m willing to give Ashman the same credit. Maybe he just didn’t think this through. Make it right. Change it, or take it down.

      • You should encourage her (and all of your local playgroup) to visit the site in a general way. Let her check out the different articles, videos, and podcasts. A sense of discovery with regards to new cards, and strategies can be quite the motivator for new players. Force feeding them decklists and content helps them win a little earlier, but the journey of getting better under your own volition leads to more engaged and longer lasting players. Also, different people respond to different things. Generally speaking, the best way to get better at the game isn’t through reading. Its through playing, and the next best thing to playing is watching others play. Which, hey look at our sweet videos!

It isn’t Ashman’s RAPE article. It has a title, a good one. With alliteration and everything. Nor is it some sort of long form joke, as I’ve explained in responses to others.

The full email address is enoughtalkl5r@gmail.com My personal email is curseword69@gmail.com and they both are real and accepting messages. Did you perhaps forget the l5r after enoughtalk?

As for threatening and offensive, you’ve left exactly two comments here, both of which were pejorative in nature and featured profanity.

I’m not inclined to take your suggestions for editing in good faith.

    • Just because something isn’t offensive or threatening to you, doesn’t mean it can’t possibly be offensive to anyone. It must be great to be in a position where you don’t ever find using RAPE in context of your L5R strategy to be in poor taste or an insinuation that this is a boys club. Are you also going to maintain the stance that when someone talks about how they are going to rape their opponent that women are being silly if they feel scared or threatened? Because we should be able to read the souls and minds of the people around us right? Because no one ever gets harassed or sexually assaulted so LOLS so funny, right?

If this is a deliberate reason to get people to clickbait, then I suppose he achieved his purpose. It still doesn’t make this any less disappointing.

      • I’m struggling with your syllogism. You’re suggesting because a person could be offended by something it should be avoided? That leads to eliminating, well, all thought really. Site would be pretty barren. People could conceivably be offended by the commentary on the Crab dishonor personalities from Emperor Edition. Maybe they helped design them and don’t appreciate the perceived slight. They think there is exactly enough text or whatever. People in general, women included, are not wilting little flowers. They can engage with decontextualized vocabulary.

You are taking from the text things not written. I’m not going to get into a debate about the subjective value of taste. I’ve found l5r to be delightfully inclusive and I value all l5r players. In fact, I wrote a whole article about that on the site. Here’s a link. http://www.enoughtalkl5r.com/articles/l5rs-greatest-resource/

        • Ok Paul, keep defending the image use. I’m done feeding into your deliberate attempt to troll. I refuse to believe you are obtuse enough to believe that a site for L5R strat referencing rape as a good mentality to keep in mind, acronym or not, is not hostile towards women and hardly inclusive.

When you make the next acronym racist and claim we’re being too sensitive I will hardly be surprised.

  • So he puts a “Game” at the beginning of the article and the acronym becomes “GRAPE” and you’ll accept that?!

Unless of course he shows a can of grape soda, then I’m calling him a racist.

  • This seems like the kind of thing you should just find synonyms for, walk back and rewrite.

At the very, very least this is a PR shitstorm and, given your ability to reason through and navigate a complicated game like L5R, I think you can see that.

    • Koganko, it sounds like you really don’t know Paul. I’ve know him for the better part of 15 years and for the most part, he’s a good friend and a nice guy who is a little (read a lot) to loud but is fun to be around. But it’s more important to him to be contrary than anything else.

      • I am loud. I do enjoy a contrarian opinion. It is not more important to me than anything else. You’re wrong on that part.

        Totally bummed you didn’t call

    • A couple of comments on a website doesn’t qualify as a shitstorm, relations or otherwise. Doubly so when so many of them are friends. Reworking an old article would take away time from making new ones. To say nothing of general laziness. I’m confident that when people come and explore the site, they aren’t going to be turned off by a single image in a single post. We have so much top flight content to experience. If they do have a reaction, well, that’s what the comments are for!

  • Paul, I want to believe that you know you need to edit the article and apologize for making light of something that is never humorous. No matter how much you might want to believe that your harmless intent is relevant, it’s not.

    • When and how did intent lose its relevance? Doesn’t the legal system, all of them, world-wide, take into account intent when determining punishment for crimes, or indeed, if there was a crime at all.

      • No, you’re simply incorrect on that assumption. There are many crimes which are simply so wrong that intent is not a factor in determining guilt. Or at least that’s what they taught me when I became a lawyer. It just so happens that the most well-known example is statutory rape. In this case, the community will judge you guilty of being an insensitive jerk whether you think your intent matters or not.

        • I have faith in the l5r community. I’m confident they won’t take a single image from a single post and use it as something else. I give them more credit than that. This isn’t a case of statutory rape.

          • No, but this is a case where you have positioned yourself against the deeply-held value of many people that making light of rape is absolutely wrong under and circumstance. You are free to make light of rape. The consequences of doing so, however, will happen whether you think they should or not.

  • It’s not an unfortunate acronym. It’s a terrible, triggering word. Five years ago I would have read this and laughed. That fact alone makes me more sad and angry than your choice of words. I hope, for your sake, that you eventually come to a place where you will see yourself writing something like this and instead of going forward and labeling it a joke, you will stop, rewrite it and come up with something else that is, in fact, just a shitty acronym.

    • Words are marvelous things. They have flexibility. Context matters. You often greet your friends with a warm “hello, bitches”. In different places, and with different tones, the meaning behind the phrase changes entirely. It can be offensive even. The word rape, with all its heavy baggage, can also be a random, inoffensive, unwitting acronym.

  • Sorry Paul, I have to agree with (most of) the others here on your process acronym.

The article is excellent up until the steaming pile of the final segment, which is made even worse by a graphic which highlights and calls attention to the offensiveness. Intent or no, it’s pretty awful, and fairly easy to avoid. “Review, Analyze, Prioritize, Commit. Rearranged, it spells CRAP, which was what the initial acronym was with a poorer word choice.”

    • Fairly easy for you to avoid, it appears. At the time, the word commit wasn’t in my wheelhouse, and so it goes. You ever want to write something for the site, we take submissions, feel free to send an email.

  • “TORTURE DEVIATE SEXUAL INTERCOURSE FORCED ANAL PENETRATION SODOMY CRIMINAL ACT….”

doesn’t seem like a bad idea to you?

    • No. It doesn’t. It doesn’t seem like an idea at all to me. It seems like what it is. Just a bunch of words. I’d use the old Faulkner/Shakespeare bit about the sound and the fury, but there isn’t even any actual discernible sound there yet. They’re just backround noise. Literally in this case.

  • So, just for the record:
    1) You aren’t going to apologize?
    2) You aren’t going to change the article?
    3) You aren’t going to take it down?

  • I really fail to understand how the use of an acronym (while in poor taste) makes Paul a rape supporting, racist villain. The world is full of offensive language and images, on television, literature, even Legend of the Five Rings. Although we now live in a culture where making demands of apologies and censorship is commonplace, I’m pretty firmly on the side of Paul’s right to post his disgusting acronym on his own website. Nowhere in this article does Paul present ideas of rape, raping opponents, condoning rape, degradation of women, or anything else of that nature. I was however surprised by Jim’s reaction. Much less than “five years ago” I attempted to introduce my little sister who is 20, to Legend of the Five Rings. Most of her first evening of game night was filled with Jim elaborating on the idea of “(Little sister) and myself participating in an adult film together”. I find that offensive. My sister never came back to game night after that. I received no apology, neither did she. Colson handed out “Colson likes boobies” honor counters to female players. I’m sure this could also be interpreted as offensive. Obviously condoning rape in any form is extremely improper. I’m fairly confident that this article didn’t express the sentiment. The world is full of concepts, ideas and language. Part of being a responsible human being is choosing which dogma you wish to acknowledge and that which you wish to ignore. Demanding the world to remove ideas you don’t agree with is pretty ridiculous.

  • I once was perma-banned on #L5R about twenty years ago because I made a tasteless rape joke. I apologized to whom I offended, but never had my ban lifted. Anyways, back on the subject.

What I see here is the author of the article seems to lack any empathy or sympathy on the subject of rape or even its victims.

    • This wasn’t an article about rape or victims of rape. I’m interested in how you came to this striking conclusion.

      • I never said what the article was or wasn’t about. I came to my conclusion after reading the many peoples comments for the author to remove the acronym. With the author being steadfast in defending of his (admitted) poor choice of words.

        • This entire thread is pretty ridiculous. Ashman isn’t “insensitive to rape” and never implied these feelings in any way. In fact, I think it’s a big mistake to label someone like that after reading their poorly chosen acronym. I’m pretty disheartened that someone is making an attempt to create something for the community only to be assaulted by the internet squad for something that may have made someone feel uncomfortable. The responsible thing to do would have been to contact Ashman directly if this was such an “issue”, instead of using the internet as a tool for group bullying and censorship attempts. Not to worry though, the more nonsense like this that goes on, the less people there will be participating in the game we all love. This way, eventually, there will be no more privately run fan pages that might run the risk of offending anyone. There was no discussion in this article of the “R” word, no condoning, really nothing offensive at all. A bad choice for an acronym? Perhaps. If something like this is really that earthshaking for a reader however, I’m afraid that life will be very difficult. Please stop watching basically all cable television, refrain from listening to most stand-up comedy, quit video games, stay off the internet and never leave the house. You’ll find much more offensive culture basically everywhere. I’m sorry that someone’s feeling were hurt or bad memories were dredged up. I think everyone involved in this thread is pretty aware that rape is a horrible thing, but I’m certain there was no malice intended.

  • Well Ryan, if you wanna bash me I’m well and good with it. I think it’s well known that I’ve done a lot of terrible stuff. Two points though; Not only did you laugh along at all times and continue to invite me to hang out with you outside of cards (great way to show your distaste for my deplorable behavior) but my behavior still doesn’t make someone else’s bad behavior any better. Right? PS, let’s not confuse who blocked who on Facebook. 😉

  • I am actually sorry if my behavior was offensive to you Ryan. You never made any mention to me of it at the time. I know my behavior was offensive to your sister and there is no excuse for it. At the time I thought I was being funny and all of the laughter I got from our group of friends spurred me on. I sincerely regret my decision to get attention at the expense of another person.

    • Thanks for the apology Jim. The laughter at the time (probably from everyone) was more nervous laughter than anything. I think the fact that I continued attempts at a relationship outside of cards shows that I saw something worthwhile through all of the inappropriate behavior. And yeah, you’re right, bringing up your past transgressions in defense of Paul doesn’t negate the issue other people have with this article. I think it was more of a reaction to my astonishment that people who I believed to be well known for inappropriate behavior would come down on something like this. The FB thing, I mean, I could really care less about, I mean, it’s totally your call who’s feeds and comments you’d like to look at, right? Again though, thanks for the apology. My intention wasn’t to bash you publicly, I was simply using the situation as an example.

    • Jim, your conduct is offensive to EVERYONE and you know it, you snake. Waving a picture of your cock and or balls (or you know, the REAL thing) in someone’s face does that – probably a little more than someone cleverly (or not so cleverly) spelling our RAPE as an acronym. Same to Colson. You and your holier than thou attitude. Do you shitstains not have anything better to do than try to make people feel bad about a little dark and unfortunate humor? If so, turn that noise inward. I’m sure your feckless, shitstained souls need and can handle it. And Vann, Corn and Kasha, grow up. I don’t know you or care to, but as an adult who has the cognitive function to compose sentences in response to this article, you can take it. RAPE RAPE RAPE. See how bad that hurt? Trigger trigger chicken dinner. You sound like a bunch of children. I see no one advocating rape, supporting rapists, or doing any of the Voldemort bullshit you’re claiming. Fight real fights. This arm chair, politically correct, empty, bullshit personal politics stuff need a bullet, and fast. Want to make a difference? Don’t go around chastising gaming bloggers, try DOING SOMETHING you twats.

  • It’s just sad that the of all the times AEG has been notified of far worse occurances of stuff happening (see above) at sanctioned events or within the community and done nothing. Now they want to be the internet police.

    • There wasn’t a Community Manager at the time, and as far as I know, the incidents referenced above weren’t reported to AEG either. AEG’s response on this issue seems appropriate to me.

      • Maybe not but I have personally contacted AEG about incidents past and recent to be either ignored or told to “grow a pair.” Was it really appropriate for you to call Brandon a “fag” when he came over and hugged Lapp after winning his top 4 @ monroville? Seth can say whatever he pleases but if he’s going to call out Paul like that then it’s only fair he call out Dan for all the things that people post on Kobune port. Honestly I could care less at this point.

  • AEG has a response to this? Also, Cody, dear, I totally agree with at least part of what you said. That’s why I’ve made a serious effort to change my ways. I know that the idea of thinking “wow, I’m an asshole” and then actually trying to not be is a foreign concept to you.

  • Oh, Cody. You are in over your head here, but wait to be the mascot for why Paul made mistake with this article. It empowers that misogynistic group of men that laugh off rape jokes and triggers, and adds fuel to their crusade against trying to make gaming more inclusive. Their ‘toughen up and grow a thicker skin’ crowd are on their way out, mostly because they lack the thick skin they so cherish. We don’t want assholes like you [Cody] in the game anymore and if we berate you until you leave or change your ways, I will be happy.

The rest of us, we all know each other and can acknowledge change in our friends when it happens. Most of us here can separate the question, ‘do I like Paul Ashman?’ from the question of ‘do I like what he’s doing here?’ Good friends call you out on your bullshit. There’s a lot of bullshit to go around. What I’m seeing is an attempt by friends/peers to help another realize a mistake, which they wouldn’t do if they didn’t think Paul was worth the energy (which by the way, I think he is, unlike, say, Cody). I wish us all friends/acquaintances with the chutzpah to call us out.

  • No cool, bro. This is where i’d normal threaten some sort of violence like, “I’m gonna make it my mission to fuck your eyesockets” or something ridiculous like that but like Jim… I’m trying my damnedist to be a better person so instead I think i am just gonna stop giving a shit about your shitty website.

  • For the record, please don’t include me in the misogynistic group of men list. I didn’t find the acronym humorous, I just wasn’t mentally/emotionally shattered after reading it.

  • Let me comment on an old thread everyone else let die.

Review is a crappy name for that step anyhow. Let’s replace it with “Observe.” Then I would say you follow that up by “Weighing your options.” Finally you “Navigate” the path to your chosen option. Finally, you “Seal the deal.”

(Owns. Cuz… I thought of it on the way home and I like making up acronyms, as those in my field often do.)
